I am Isabel, I am 28, and I am a native-speaker Portuguese teacher from a beautiful town in the West of Portugal, called Caldas da Rainha. Have you heard of it? Today I live in Lisbon, where I work. I consider myself professional but easy-going. It's very important to be relaxed when you are learning a new language, I always try to keep a relaxed and nice environment in the class.
Let me tell you a little bit about me: I work as a freelance teacher of Portuguese in Lisbon. At the same time, I am involved in arts, being part of an active theatre group in Lisbon. I love going out, meeting friends and having fun in this beautiful city.
How did I end up teaching Portuguese? It's a very interesting story. I was in Canada, in the University of Guelph, finishing my masters on Comparative Literature, "Crossways in Cultural Narratives", when two Professors at the university asked me to teach them Portuguese, since in their research they found some connections to Brazil and Portugal. After finishing my masters, I came back to Portugal. Once in Portugal, I worked full-time in a school specialized in teaching Portuguese for foreigners. Since then I have been teaching online or in person in cafes and terraces.

In my classes, I let the students speak with no fear and I try to correct mistakes in such a way that my students develop skills of self-correction and learn to use the language independently. It is important for me to decide with the students which the topics we want to talk about, so that the classes become more personalized, and an interesting experience. I am more than open to explore topics that interest the student and to research articles, texts, exercises that surround the topics the students want to talk about - Art, Literature, Business, Sports). I consider very important to develop real communications during the lesson.
The focus on writing and reading (I have a variety of books for all levels I can recommend) is dictated by the learner’s needs.
Also I try use a variety of teaching techniques to keep the learning atmosphere positive.

I was fortunate to be taught Portuguese by Isabel in the past through a language school called Portuguese Connection based in Lisbon. She is an incredible teacher who knows how to adapt her teaching style to the particular needs of students. I would recommend her to anyone!
