I am a qualified and experienced teacher of English to Foreigners, have been living and teaching in Brazil for the last 40 years and I use the same skills that I have developed over all this time in order to teach Portuguese to Foreigners. Most people do not realise that the skills for teaching a language to a foreign person are completely different from those for teaching language to people whose mother tongue it is, and therefore often fall into the trap of hiring a portuguese teacher who teaches in schools (a completely different skillset), and this can confuse foreign learners. For this reason, I have found that my own tried and tested method of comparing (not necessarily translating) Portuguese and English to be most successful. I consequently use a my own materials together with carefully selected practice exercises that are available online. Most of the textbooks available for teaching Portuguese are over complicated and difficult for students to use. As a result of my experiences in Brazil and with the Porguguese language, I fully appreciate the liguistic challenges that the learner is facing. My classes are ideal for all levels, ranging from beginners who merely wish to communicate to those who have lived here for some time, can get by in the language but have reached a plateau and just do not seem to be able to improve any further. This is a very common situation and my classes are taylor-made for getting you over this hurdle.

My name is Jenny and I have been living and teaching in Brazil for over 40 years. My children and my grandchildren were born here. Although Portuguese is not my mother tongue, I have been totally dedicated to learning it correctly, to the extent that people often think that I am Brazilian. In 1997, I qualified as a sworn translator and interpreter and have been working simultaneously in this field since then, both here and in England.
I am also available to help with translations into English and with editing.
