My career as an educator is built on a foundation of rigorous American standards and global perspective. After earning my degree and teaching license in the United States, I spent four years in the US public school system mastering the Common Core and general curriculum delivery. This experience allowed me to develop a deep understanding of how to build foundational skills in Mathematics and Literacy before I transitioned to the international stage here in Lisbon.
Currently, I serve as a classroom teacher at a prominent International IB school. Beyond daily instruction in the Primary Years Programme (PYP), I have taken on leadership roles that define my professional approach. As the Lead Public Speaking Teacher, I have successfully coached students through advanced argumentation and debating, while my role as Literacy Coordinator involves managing school-wide events that turn reading into a high-engagement experience.
What distinguishes my practice is my ability to blend the "innovation" of project-based learning with the structural discipline required for academic excellence. My classroom is a high-energy environment where respect and curiosity are the standards. I am a licensed American educator currently teaching at an International IB school in Lisbon. My approach is rooted in the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), focusing on inquiry-based learning and transdisciplinary units. Rather than simple memorization, I help students develop the "Approaches to Learning" (ATL) skills they need to become independent researchers and confident writers.
A typical session is high-energy and structured. We begin with a clear "Inquiry Hook" to engage the student, followed by targeted skill-building in English, Math, or Science. As a specialist in Public Speaking and Literacy Leadership, I integrate confidence-building and formal argumentation into every lesson. I also specialize in EAL scaffolding, ensuring that students transitioning into international environments can master complex academic concepts while simultaneously building their English proficiency.
Whether we are working on a "Junior CEO" business project, a "Poetry Café" writing piece, or a rigorous Mathematics unit, my goal is to foster curiosity and academic excellence. My classes are specifically designed for students in Grades 1–6 who are navigating the high expectations of the Lisbon international school circuit and the IB framework.
