• 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn it?

  I'm a native English Speaker and have done numerous voice work .
  I speak the Afrikaans language fluently because of a teacher that inspired me in junior primary,foundation is key in any new language!

• 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  English would be actors the likes of James Earl Jones and Sean Connery and my family has an affinity for English and poetry !
  
  Afrikaans would be Riaan Cruywagen,the iconic newsreader!

• 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

  I enjoy using descriptive vocabulary,why be ordinary when you can be extraordinary.
  
  There are many unique Afrikaans traditions ,like dancing( Sakkie Sakkie) Braai ,biltong , koeksusters and family get together's and Bliksem!

• 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  I have an affinity for languages hence English and Afrikaans. It's important because it's connected to all the English and Afrikaans cartoons I was exposed to growing up as a child .

• 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language, and what can help students with the learning process?

  The main difficulty is trying to learn and master a language in isolation . Students need to make the connection to English . The language papers for both languages have the same section.Students must apply themselves.

• 6) Could you share an anecdote related to your language learning or your student days?

  I remember my first English essay I was chuffed with my marks after initially battling to unpack the question. A student should have faith in their abilities and follow through with answering in context
  
  Afrikaans in school I was the designated Translator in my grade 8 and 9. The teacher would ask me to read our prescribed Setworks or get the class to read it then I would translate. I just had a knack for it.

• 7) How has travel or a specific experience helped you to increase your understanding and appreciation of the language?

  English is a widely spoken language internationally so there's always someone to find that you can communicate with. However visiting a Coty like India where the national language is Hindi doesn't help with negotiating skills
  
  I have encountered Afrikaans sign language at two international events and this has broadened my level of understanding,it's also allowed me the gift to teach deaf and hard of hearing individuals.

  I'm excited! Passionate and an innovative teacher who wants the best for his students and inspires them to do their best! I'm realistic and motivational. I enjoy mentoring students and journeying with then through their epiphanies.
